Rev. Dr. Forbes Maupa has served as Port Chaplain with The Mission to Seafarers (MtS) in Durban since 2023, bringing more than 20 years of experience in ordained ministry and church leadership to his work supporting seafarers.
Rev. Dr. Forbes Maupa has served as Port Chaplain with The Mission to Seafarers (MtS) in Durban since 2023, bringing more than 20 years of experience in ordained ministry and church leadership to his work supporting seafarers.
Throughout his ministry, Rev. Dr. Maupa has held senior leadership positions, including serving as a Rector and Archdeacon. He is also a qualified canon lawyer and contributes to various church legal bodies, bringing a unique combination of pastoral, leadership and legal expertise to his work.
As Port Chaplain, he plays an important role in supporting the wellbeing of seafarers visiting the Port of Durban, providing pastoral care, companionship and practical support to those who spend long periods away from home and their families. He also represents chaplaincy on key port committees in Durban, contributing to discussions that impact the seafarer community and the wider maritime environment.
During this Coffee Chat, Rev. Dr. Maupa will take us behind the scenes of his work as a Port Chaplain, sharing insights into “A Day in the Life of the Durban Mission to Seafarers” and the vital role chaplaincy plays in the lives of seafarers arriving in one of South Africa’s busiest ports.
