Principal Director – Marine, International Chamber of Shipping (ICS)

Chris Oliver is the Principal Director – Marine at the International Chamber of Shipping, the principal international trade association for merchant shipowners and operators, representing all sectors and trades and over 80% of the world merchant fleet.

He has 44 years of experience in the shipping industry, is a qualified Master Mariner with 15 years sea experience with an oil major, followed by 23 years operational and ship management experience ashore with a dry cargo owner / operator, before joining ICS in 2017.

He is currently responsible for the overall operations of the Marine Department including prioritisation, coordination and delivery of all ICS marine activities, including ICS policy on technical, nautical, operational, crewing & training, security and environmental issues.

He is also the ICS Accredited Representative to IMO and ICS Head of Delegation. This work includes participation in International Maritime Organization (IMO) Committees and Sub-Committees to represent the interests of ICS Members, shipowners and operators and working with IMO member States and other relevant stakeholders to develop and maintain statutory regulations.
